Balanced rock is a work of art. A work of nature’s art. Worn away over the centuries. One day to fall over and be forgotten over the passage of time. Fortunately, for posterities sake, it has a much more solid attachment than its name implies.

Balanced rock base

There’s not a bad time to visit Balanced Rock, but this is definitely one of the best places to spend sunset.

Trail Description

The trail leading up to the base of Balanced Rock is paved making it wheelchair accessible. The trial continues on around the arch but is more primitive. It is still easy to follow. This trail is suitable for any hiking skill level.

Trail Directions

To get to the trail head, just follow the main park road until you see signs for Balanced Rock parking lot. If you are coming from the park entrance, the parking lot will be on the right side of the road. The trail head starts off of the south side of the balance rock parking lot. Follow the short, paved trail up to the base of the rock. At the base, there is an option for a primitive trail around to the other side.

Trail Tips

Make sure to keep an eye on where you’re walking. The temptation is to look up at the rock that seems to hang right over you, but you don’t want to accidentally walk into a cactus.
